A Moment With Maurice Sendak

So glad I didn't pass this up.

My public library is doing a Summer Reading theme called "Wild About Reading" and it is centered around Maurice Sendak's book, Where the Wild Things Are. Maurice Sendak is one of my favorite artists. I own his documentary Tell Them Anything You Want and re-watch it probably quarterly, so when I found out 50 of his original pieces of art were going to be displayed at the downtown Oklahoma City library, I was really excited.

It worked out for me to get away this past week, and I spent about an hour soaking in his art. As I rounded the corner to the open atrium where it was displayed it took my breath away, and as I walked close to take in his first piece, my eyes welled up with tears. I wasn't expecting to have this emotional response, but it made me all the happier that I made it to this exhibit. He means more to me than I even realized.
